Ira Glass, US-American radio host (“This American Life“), talks about his views on the secret of storytelling and creative work. The point he is making ist that it will take beginners a long time (as in years) to actually deliver good work. If you are not happy with your work, the good news is that your good taste is telling you that you work is maybe trying to be good, but not quite there yet. This should be a reassuring realisation and encourage you to keep going and to improve your work by working more and more. It is this point where many people simply quit but the key to succeeding is to simply keep going and to remind yourself that practically everyone doing interesting creative work has had the very same experience.
Your creative work will be as good as your ambitions
It might be a good idea to keep this video handy and quickly available when you are feeling down because you are disappointed by your own creative work. Pull yourself up and remind yourself of Ira’s statements and keep going… 🙂
